Director's debut for Marceau

Evening Standard (London), Nov 28, 2001 by TOBY ROSE

James Bond star Sophie Marceau is to make her directorial debut after turning her hand to scriptwriting.

The film, Parlez Moi d'Amour, stars Judith Godrèche. Ms Marceau, 35, said: "It's the story of a man and a woman who have reached the end of their relationship. Neither of them is guilty, but it is the girl who has the courage to say, 'Me first'."

Ms Godrèche, 29, said: "It's exhausting. It's a story of a woman who has played the role expected of her and then given up. I see in her a little bit of Bridget Jones but Sophie has given my character a different edge."

Bravely perhaps, given his volcanic temperament, Ms Marceau has cast Niels Arestrup as her leading man.

She has also decided that a key scene must take place at a children's tea party, which was something of shock when they all started screaming.

Nonetheless Ms Marceau, mother of six-year-old Vincent, coped admirably. She said: "I find relationships with children the easiest."
